A Brief History Of The Sunblade Name.
Samuel Svensson Sundblad's father, Sven Svensson
(my great great great grand father) was the first to use the Sundblad
name. He was a reserve soldier in Sweden. Many of the soldiers at that
time chose a name other than their patronymic name so their superiors
could differentiate between them better.
This was necessary because there were so many Svenssons, Jonssons,
Anderssons, Nilssons, Carlssons, and so on.
Why Sven Svensson chose the name Sundblad we don't really know, but
usually they chose names from nature. Sund meaning "sound or healthy"
and Blad meaning "petal or leaf".
After immigrating to the United States in the late 1800's an "e" was
added to the end of the name making it "Sundblade". By the early 1900's
the "e" remained and the "d" in the middle of the name was dropped,
making the spelling as it is now, "Sunblade".
